Quality of Life

Just another weekend

For the second weekend in a row I spent my time at home, it’s an amazing feeling even though I love all my little weekend trips to Gotham, Summer house and Copenhagen (even if the last one was a while ago now). I started the weekend with leaving work in a decent time to head home and enjoy the summer weather with a good book and a cold drink.

I can’t say that I was in the best of moods as I had a small disappointment, so I used the evening to have a little pity feast at home, and I approve of friends that indulge me in such behavior by leaving my fav ice-cream and a bag of chips on my door. Appreciated!

Saturday came with better mood and the want for a BBQ, so I invited some friends over, only one accepted which doesn’t matter because there was good food and later in the evening one of my neighbors showed up with some friends so I ended up sitting outside all evening long.

Then Sunday ended the weekend on a good note for me, Miss Legal and I met up for coffee and then we headed of on our bikes to the shopping mall. On such a hot day it was nice to have the about half an hour-long bike, then a couple of hours inside a cool mall before jumping back on the bike for another half an hour bike home.

Perfect weekend, how was yours?

A beautiful walk

Instead of doing things like looking for a new job or cooking dinner, you can actually go for a walk and enjoy the beauty of the city you live in, at least that’s what I did and I got some amazing pictures out of it.

Quiz night is back!

Thursday brought good times and the return of autumn, what else can you call it when the quiz returns after a summer break. As I managed to lure some of my colleagues with me before the summer I didn’t have to go and highjack a team this time around. Instead we meet up before the quiz so I could enjoy Fagans faboulous Cheese and Bacon burger, yum!

And of course, my quiz drink: Newcastle.

And again, they let me pick the name of the team…I say they only have themselves to blame!

We didn’t win this time around either, it doesn’t matter though as it’s a fun night out. can’t say that the next day was that much fun as I accidentally came home at two am. I have to remember that I no longer have the fantastic age of twenty five (even if I am good at pretending).

When life sucks

My little runaway

Last Tuesday was a rough morning, I woke up a bit late to a crazy thunderstorm and realized pretty quickly that biking or walking to work wasn’t really an option, thus it would be the bus. The bus happens to take me quite some time and I would be totally late (since I already kind of was). So I’m running around like a little crazy, trying to find clothes to wear while brushing my teeth and all that other stuff that seem to take at least twice as long when you are late.

Finally I was ready, rain boots and rain jacket on, rushing out the door, with the door open my brain clicks, something is wrong. I walk back a few steps and realize that what my brain had registered was the tarantula sitting on top of the drawers that I have in my livingroom. And with that I mean on top of the drawers next to the terrarium and not in it.

The first thing that pops into my mind is that some other tarantula magically managed to get into my apartment during the night and now was sitting there trying to get in to August for a cuddle so I actually check the terrarium to confirm that August is in there, she wasn’t.

I then checked the lid, which was on so my brain drew the natural conclusion that my spider now have managed to walk trough walls, ridiculous I know.

She wasn’t sitting still either and I got nervous that she would start climbing down, lose her way and fall down and die, so I got a bit freaked out. For you that don’t know it, I have a rather weird attachment to my spidy as it used to be my dads, so I’m freaking out a bit here.

It might be that she felt my stress and started to seem a bit agitated herself and not in the mood to be picked up and put back in the terrarium so I did the only thing I could think of. This being opening the lid, grabbing a big plastic box that I just happened to have standing around, and put it at the edge of the drawers, this way if she fell down it wouldn’t be that far.

Standing there with the box, staring at her, trying to will her to fly back in to the terrarium the magic happened. She turned around, saw her home on the other side of the glass and calmly climbed back in. The lid went back on, and a small rock added on top of it to ensure that the little runaway can’t get out again, and I headed to work.

Looking back, I kind of regret that I didn’t take a minute to take a picture of the little runaway enjoying her short time in freedom, I admit that it was the last thing on my mind though as all I wanted to get her back in the terrarium where she is safe and sound.

Reading

Book delivery

On my way home from work today I picked up yet another book delivery and this time I’m really excited about it as I made an effort of finding books for my reading challenge.

wpid-dsc_0632.jpgI managed to sort out a Nobel Prize recipient, a H.C Andersens Literature Award recipient, a Asian Literary Prize (formerly the Man Asian Literary Prize) recipient and Jorge Luis Borges. Super excited!

Reading

Inspiration to read

The summerhouse does so much good for you, even if I drag my PC there to be able to keep up with my harvesting and animal feeding in Farmville 2, I don’t open the computer at all in the evenings. Instead I read, and read, and then read some more.

This time around I managed to finish the trilogy that I started when in Essen, the first book is called Wool, then comes Shift and last one Dust.

I also managed the last to issues of pretty much the only magazine that I read from cover to cover, Vi Läser (We read), which is of course about books.

And then, thanks to a very delayed train on my way home I managed to finish a book called Jag heter inte Miriam (My name isn’t Miriam). That was the only good thing about the delayed train. It was such an amazing book that I just needed to finish it.

It’s not many books that are told from the Gypsy perspective when it comes to the Holocaust. For Swedes, and the situation we have here now, I think it goes on the list of should reads.

Sunday in da civilization

After a chill Sunday morning we figured that a little bit of civilization would be nice so me and da mother headed to da city for lunch with a view.

On our way from lunch we happened to walk past a shop with sales signs stating 70% off, so we just had to check it out. I walked out with a real barging, a pair of lovely shorts.

Having to do one more stop on our way back to the summerhouse I also picked up some yum Mums Mums (for planning on visiting Sweden, it’s a must eat) and some cool sponges for doing the dishes.
