Germany 2015

Returning home

All things have to come to an end, also my wonderful long weekend in Germany. Before being driven to the airport (awesome!!!) we stopped for a light dinner in a lovely Cafe. Salad anyone?

image

I also saw a real cool parking sign, nothing we see in Sweden really, please park on the sidewalk;

image

Reaching the airport I snuggled down with my book, it wasn’t to last though as apparently I didn’t have that much left of it, and with 30 minutes to departure I had finished it.
While packing for the trip a few days earlier I debated with myself on how many books to bring with me, and decided that I had too many. First it was the one that I was already half way through;
image

Then it was the one that someone who loved Hunger Games, just had to read;
image

And then there was the one that is ‘the new hunger games’ (hey, what would life be without hunger games??);
[insert pic here when gotten around to take one]

I didn’t expect to finish them all, so I was now sitting in the airport having nothing to read. I headed to the bookstore, it’s just that in Germany they don’t really love the English language that much so the selection was small and nothing that interested me so I left the bookshop again without a new book. As I was leaving I saw this;
image

Fredrik Backman is one of my fav authors and it’s fun that he’s being translated into so many languages, and that the airport in Düsseldorf has a whole window dedicated to him. (For my non-Swedish fans, most of his books are translated into English and I can highly recommend them).

So, without a book I had to enjoy my snack and free non-alcoholic drink on the plane.
image

Without a book I had to enjoy the train ride from the airport to home, and guess how happy I was (NOT!!!) when I walked out of the train station to this;
image

Well, that was all for me for now. I will see if I can be a better blogger in my everyday life, it’s just that with a fulltime job and a life to live, there doesn’t seem to be that much time left over for the blog. I hope that you can forgive me.

Sunday chillin

Sunday brought gray clouds, rain and a chill to the air. That didn’t stop us from heading out on a mission; getting Carolina some spaghetti ice-cream!
To my knowledge, I’ve never heard about it, or seen it before so I just had to try it.

We drove down to the Essen water front and went for a lovely walk;

Checking out some buildings;

And finally sitting down for what’s been the talk of the weekend, spaghetti ice-cream. I settled with a spaghetti bologneis while Miss D went for the classical version. So what is spaghetti ice-cream you wonder, it’s ice-cream that looks like spaghetti.

And it was yum I tell you. I finished every little bit of mine.

Sushi Mania

After all the shopping, we were dying for dinner and headed towards a quaint little area with loads of places to eat, one of them being sushi. I’m not one to turn down sushi, especially not when they have an all you can eat menu.
image

So there was limitations to the all you can eat, you were allowed to order five dishes at a time, five times and then they cut you of. I still figured it would be worth it.

Round 1

Maki with salmon and avocado, salmon tartar, salmon nigiri, miso soup and edamame beans;
image

image

image

Round 2

Seaweed salad, small maki with avocado, salmon nigiri, salmon roll and dumplings;
image

image

Round 3

Mini spring rolls, double salmon maki, tuna tartar, salmon tartar and salmon nigiri
image

image

Round 4

Miso soup, salmon nigiri, salmon and avocado maki, salmon tartar, dumplings
image

After round four I just couldn’t eat any more, and felt a bit bad about it as I really wanted to get my money worth, so before calling quits I did a quick calculation and realized I had had more than the €24,95 that the meal would cost me. And before I left I counted togheter all the food I had, except for two items that I couldn’t find in the normal menu, it turned out that I had food for over €64. I’m pretty happy I went for the all you can eat…

After dinner we once again ended up on Miss D’s balcony with some one and good company. Perfect Saturday, shopping – sushi – wine with good company!

Shopping

Saturday was to come with colder weather so we decided that to be shopping day. Can’t say it was much colder, however the stores are closed on Sundays so it was my last chance.

image

So after another hotel-like brekkie we headed in to the center. Sun was shining and the mood was good, and there was entertainment 🙂 can’t go wrong with old ladies dancing.

image

My first purchase was an addition to my kitchen wall (need to buy more hooks), they didn’t have an Essen one so it had to be the area mug;

image

I opted against taking a photo of every shop we went into however in the afternoon after hours of walking and looking I felt my sugar levels go, and wham there was a Dunkin Doughnut;

image

Made me feel so much better. By the end of the day I came home with a new wallet, been looking for one for ages.

image

A new sweater, you can never have too many and it was down from €59 to €19, what a barging.

image

And something I really needed, a pair of shorts. That I’m wearing right now because I’m late getting ready for work and just had to do my morning yoga first.

Mexican evening with the colleagues

Miss Deutchland and me know each other through work, and she informed her team that I was coming for a visit this weekend, it appeared that a whole bunch of them wanted to meet and hang out! *feeling popular*.
So after coming home from the beach, having washed the sunblock and the sweat from lying in the sun, off, we headed again to the city center. Starting the evening of with coronas and nachos while waiting for the peeps that spent the day in the office.

image

image

It appeared that the place we sat down at made some pretty awesome cocktails of different sizes and of course I had to try them out, starting with a Mango mojito;

image

Moving on to a chili cocktail;

image

That was so yummy that I just had to get the larger version;

image

The slight burn from the chili’s in the drink was awesome and it felt like my body got a proper cleansing (probably would’ve been better without the alcohol to get a proper cleanse, but whatever). There was also a free shot from the restaurant, however I was to busy drinking it rather than taking a picture.
With a whole cocktail drinking table I can tell you that the poor guy that came to sort out the bill with us had a though time, I mean 7 cocktail drinking people who need to remember what they had…
This evening I also got to try out Essens amazing public transportation by night, but not before a quick stop at McD, meet my new friend Hans;

The great bikini incident 2015

Essen might be landlocked, doesn’t keep the drifty litter Germans from building a beach though. So after a beautiful, hotel like brekkie on Friday we went headed towards the beach. However, on the way there we stopped at the grocery store to get some fruit.

image

On the parking lot my bikini suddenly opens and I ask Miss Deutchland if she can quickly close it for me as I’m keeping my boobs in place. It turns out that the lock on the back was broken. How fun!
After diving into the changing room in one of the shops I managed to tie it back together and our trip could continue, do I need to mention that the bikini is now in the bin?

image

The homemade beach is called the Blue Lagoon and is about a 45 minute drive from Essen. Here we spent the day enjoying the scenery, reading and taking mini naps.

You could spend your Friday in a worse way!

Good morning!

Even though I’m staying with a friend, waking up to this make me feel like I’m living in a hotel.

Good start to the day!
